Britney Spears’ representative shuts down “ridiculous” claim she behaved erratically with knife in restaurant, as star breaks silence after DUI and rehab

Britney Spears’ representative shuts down “ridiculous” claim she behaved erratically with knife in restaurant, as star breaks silence after DUI and rehab

Britney Spears’ reps have shut down “ridiculous” reports that the singer behaved erratically with a knife in a restaurant, and the pop star has also broken her silence since her DUI arrest and subsequent stay in a rehab facility.

Reports about the singer behaving erratically in a restaurant emerged on social media earlier this week, when one person claimed that they were seated near her in a restaurant and saw her acting in a way that meant “one diner feared for her life”.

They described it as an “INSANE dining experience” and added that it was “not a joke”, and TMZ later ran a story about the alleged incident, writing that the ‘Toxic’ singer was allegedly “screaming “ and “barking” while at the Blue Dog Tavern in Sherman Oaks, California, and also walked past a table with a knife in her hand.

Now, a new statement from a representative has been shared and denies that the singer did anything erratic on the night – adding that she simply enjoyed “a quiet dinner with her assistant and bodyguard”.

She just left and everyone in the restaurant turned and started talking about it. An INSANE dining experience. One diner feared for her life. This is not a joke… https://t.co/uGuk5Q7HOF

“She was simply telling the story about how her dog was barking at the neighbours. At no point did she put anyone in danger with a knife,” the spokesperson told Billboard.

“She was cutting her hamburger in half,” they added in regard to the claims about her holding a knife. “This constant attack on everything that she does and this is exactly what happened 20 years ago when the media tried to depict Britney as a bad person. This is ridiculous and it needs to stop now.”

Her being spotted at the California restaurant comes shortly after the pop star avoided jail time in her DUI case, after pleading guilty to a lesser misdemeanour charge of reckless driving.

She was arrested on March 4 after police pulled her over on suspicion of driving under the influence, following reports of erratic, high-speed driving. She was later charged with a misdemeanour count of driving under the influence.

At a hearing last month, the case was resolved through a plea deal, and as part of the agreement, Spears was sentenced to 12 months of informal probation.

It was decided that she must comply with court-ordered conditions including vehicle searches if requested by law enforcement, attending DUI education classes, and continuing regular mental health treatment.

A month prior, Spears voluntarily checked herself into a rehabilitation facility and she also spoke about the incident, sharing a video of her dancing with her 19-year-old son Jayden Federline and thanking fans for their support.

Now, she has spoken out for the first time since pleading guilty to the misdemeanour charge and thanked people for helping her on her “spiritual journey”.

“I’m so damn thankful to my friends and so many new beautiful people I have met through my spiritual journey,” the singer shared in a seemingly now-deleted Instagram caption (via Rolling Stone), adding that it was “all a blessing in disguise.”

TMZ has reported that Spears left the rehab centre in Maine after less than three weeks there, and in her recent Instagram post, the singer added: “I still have to learn how to be kind to myself and the way I speak to myself.

“It’s a never ending journey and sometimes I just stop, look up and say wow God I think that was you and smile on!!!”

The recent legal issue was not the first time that the singer has been arrested after being behind the wheel. In 2007, she faced charges in a hit-and-run case, although these were eventually dropped and a jury acquitted her of driving without a valid California license.

Since then, she published her memoir, The Woman In Me, which made countless headlines upon its release due to the candid discussions of her career, relationships, 13-year conservatorship and personal experiences.
