The Witcher 4 Size Officially Confirmed, Goodbye To Our Social Lives

The Witcher 4 Size Officially Confirmed, Goodbye To Our Social Lives

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt‘s long-rumored DLC has officially been confirmed as of a major new announcement last week from CD Projekt Red, and it looks like we’re poised to see some brand-new content that may segue us more cleanly into Ciri’s takeover as lead protagonist in The Witcher 4.

Unfortunately, we’ll be waiting until at least 2027 before we get our hands on the Songs of the Past expansion, and The Witcher 4 likely won’t be releasing until 2028 at this rate, though no official dates have been confirmed.

That said, CD Projekt Red has provided some vague details about both projects over the past week since the expansion was officially announced, giving us a glimpse at how many developers are working on their various projects behind the scenes. It’s a rare look at the inner workings at CDPR, and one that also provides a sense of scale for The Witcher 4.

As such, after an official announcement from CDPR and comparing The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt‘s team size to that of The Witcher 4, along with a few other recently released details about both projects, The Witcher 4 looks set to be one of the biggest open-world games ever created (via TweakTown).

Based on a newly released look at the team size working on The Witcher 4, it appears that over twice as many developers are on the project as The Witcher 3. This fact, alongside the additional reveal that The Witcher 4 will not be getting major DLC expansions akin to The Witcher 3’s Blood and Wine, Hearts of Stone, and now Songs of the Past, it’s safe to say that the base game itself is going to be an absolutely sprawling and massive experience the likes of which The Witcher fans have never seen.

According to the recent official CDPR post on X, there are 513 developers working on The Witcher 4, which is currently expected to arrive no sooner than fall or winter 2027. Compare that to the roughly 240 developers that worked on The Witcher 3, and it’s safe to assume we’re in for a huge surprise in terms of scale—and possibly an earlier release window as well.

While no specific dates have been confirmed so far, fans have a lot to look forward to in the coming months, with The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past officially set to get a gameplay reveal at Gamescom in Cologne between August 26–30. This will give players a sense of what they can expect when the new DLC launches next year, and how exactly CDPR plans to bridge the narrative gap between The Witcher 3 and The Witcher 4.

Further, with Songs of the Past not releasing until 2027, all signs point to a more likely 2028 release for The Witcher 4, though the massive team working on the project could very well pump that out much sooner than anticipated. That said, CDPR has stated they aren’t keen on overworking their staff just to hit arbitrary deadlines, and with Songs of the Past coming out, fans are going to have plenty of content to tide them over until The Witcher 4 does eventually release.
