Fauci Says He Wishes There Were More ‘Stringent’ Restrictions and Pressure to Wear Masks at Beginning of Pandemic

Fauci Says He Wishes There Were More ‘Stringent’ Restrictions and Pressure to Wear Masks at Beginning of Pandemic

Dr. Anthony Fauci, with the benefit of hindsight, wishes the government had imposed more “stringent restrictions” on COVID patients experiencing no symptoms during the onset of the pandemic in 2020.

Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and chief medical advisor to President Biden, suggested social distancing and mask-wearing should have been pushed harder for the asymptomatic.

“If I knew in 2020, what I know now, we would do a lot differently because back then we were not sure of a number of things,” he said on The Hill’s “Rising” show.

“We know now, two and a half years later, that anywhere from 50 to 60 percent of the transmission occur from someone without symptoms, either someone who never will get symptoms or someone who is in the pre-symptomatic stage,” the nation’s top doctor said.

“Had we known that then, the insidious nature of spread in the community would have been much more of an alarm and there would have been much, much more stringent restrictions in the sense of very, very heavy, encouraging people to wear masks, physical distancing or what have you.”

Fauci would later suggest that masking is one of the more important restrictions in preventing the transmission of COVID, pointing specifically to well-fitted K95 masks as opposed to cloth ones.

“I think the masking situation is one that is really critical that would have been done differently,” the twice vaccinated, twice-boosted infectious disease expert said.

“First of all, we did not fully appreciate that a well-fitted K95 or NK95 mask is much, much better than a cloth mask and to wear a good mask, the data now are very clear that masks are very good at preventing both the acquisition of and transmission of infection,” he added.

Still, he stated that he “didn’t recommend locking anything down” and said the “CDC does not mandate anything.”

Fauci at one time just before the pandemic exploded in the United States in March of 2020 declared, “There’s no reason to be walking around with a mask.”

He has insisted since that time that science evolved.

Fauci now says the U.S. should have had “much more stringent restrictions” at the beginning of the pandemic.

Tyrannical lockdowns failed to stop COVID-19 at every turn, yet he insists they just weren’t tyrannical enough.

Fauci is delusional, and Americans are fed up.

Rand Paul Wants Him Under Oath

The CDC might not mandate anything, as Fauci suggests, but their behavior was borderline dictatorial in some regards nonetheless.

A report in May revealed documents showing the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) purchased location data from tens of millions of Americans’ cellphones in an effort to track their location and ensure compliance with COVID lockdown measures, as well as monitor vaccination efforts.

Vice breaks the story of the CDC using tracking data on Americans, to see if they were complying with the lockdowns, and then has to add that right wingers worried about surveillance like this and they’re almost apologetic about their own piece. ???? pic.twitter.com/NS0sOmrp7c

Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) last week celebrated the news that Fauci planned to continue his work rather than retire by declaring he’d like to get him “under oath” to discuss the origins of COVID.

Paul has been a consistent thorn in Fauci’s side, one of a handful of lawmakers willing to continually press Fauci over what they consider inconsistent statements and/or policies.

Excellent – because I look forward to ascertaining Fauci’s involvement in the cover-up of the lab origins of COVID — Under Oath! https://t.co/LHmpE8QuWs

    — Rand Paul (@RandPaul) July 19, 2022

Paul previously accused Fauci of spreading COVID “hysteria” that led to more restrictions and school closings across America.

“We’re doing mass testing of people that are not sick. We’re sending people home that have no symptoms, and we’re testing whole classes and sending more people home,” Paul fumed.

“We need to get rid of the hysteria, but the people that are promoting the hysteria work for the government.”

“I mean this is Dr. Fauci’s fault largely because he’s still hysterically talking about mandates and shutting people down and not letting people fly and blaming the unvaccinated,” the Senator said.

“His default position is always, ‘How can I control people? How can I regulate people?’” Paul said in another interview.

Now, he’s openly wishing he could have done more to regulate and control people.
