Chris Pratt Reveals He Doesn’t Like Using The Name Chris

Chris Pratt Reveals He Doesn’t Like Using The Name Chris

Chris Pratt may be among multiple Chrises who have found success in Hollywood, but he prefers being called anything but his popular first name.

Chris Pratt may share the same first name as many other Hollywood leading men, but the actor now reveals he’d rather be called something else. Pratt continues to be one of the most buzzed-about celebrities with multiple projects releasing this year. Since his breakout role as the bumbling Andy Dwyer in Parks and Recreation, Pratt has developed his reputation as an action film star through characters like Star-Lord in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Owen Grady in the Jurassic World franchise. His latest venture is an upcoming Amazon series, The Terminal List, in which he plays a former Navy SEAL summoned back into action.

    SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Not long after the release of The Terminal List, Pratt will also appear in Thor: Love and Thunder, reprising his role as the Guardians of the Galaxy leader Star-Lord. He’ll be starring alongside another famous Chris, as Chris Hemsworth returns to play the title role. As many have remarked online, the MCU is known for hiring actors named Chris, with Pratt, Hemsworth, and former Captain America star Chris Evans forming a sort of imagined trio. Add in Star Trek actor Chris Pine, and one has what the internet has deemed to be Hollywood’s most famous Chrises.

However, Pratt might not enjoy that joke so much, as the name isn’t his moniker of choice. In fact, Pratt admits in a new interview with SiriusXM’s Pop Culture Spotlight With Jessica Shaw (via EW) that no one calls him by his first name. Instead, he’d rather be called something else. He said:

“Pratt. CP. You know, CP. ‘Hey, CP.’ But no one calls me Chris. My friend, Chad. I went golfing with my friend, Chad, my pastor the other day and he was like, ‘No one calls you Chris? I’m gonna call you Chris. Alright, Chris. You’re up.’ And I was like, ‘No, it feels weird. It’s not my name. Don’t call me Chris.'”

The Tomorrow War - CHRIS PRATT

Pratt’s comment was most likely meant in jest, but his feelings make sense. After all, Chris is as common a name as John or Tom (of which the MCU also has multiple). Thanks to the MCU, Pratt gets to share both on-screen and red carpet time with fellow actors of the same name, and no doubt each of them have responded to calls meant for the other. To keep the Chrises straight, most fans have taken to calling them by their last names anyway, so Pratt’s preference for simply “Pratt” comes naturally. Unfortunately, his wishes might not extend to those online, as the jokes surrounding the Hollywood Chris actors are unlikely to ease up anytime soon.

Thankfully, Pratt is in good company with Hemsworth, Evans, and Pine, even despite his unwillingness to go by the name Chris. If Pratt’s ambivalence toward his name stems from there being too many actors who share it, he can at least content himself with the knowledge that he has done plenty to make himself stand out from the crowd. Between Jurassic World Dominion, Thor: Love and Thunder, and The Terminal List, Pratt is enjoying a very busy summer. Clearly, a common name isn’t hurting too much.
