God Of War Ragnarök May Feature Time Travel

God Of War Ragnarök May Feature Time Travel

God of War Ragnarök is dropping later this year. However, a shocking twist in recent details may point to the possibility of time travel.

The release date for God of War Ragnarök inches closer by the day, but further theories about its story and plot development continue to circulate, the latest of these being the possibility of time travel. The game will see Kratos and Atreus battling a whole host of monsters and Aseir gods, and while much of the plot for the game is largely unknown, recent details around some of the finer details known so far may point to the inclusion of time travel.

God of War Ragnarök will pit the popular father and son duo against hordes of menacing foes amidst the frosty winters of the Norse Apocalypse. Being the last game to take place in Midgard, and serving as the sequel to 2018’s soft reboot of the franchise, fans are expecting a spectacular conclusion to the Scandinavian saga. However, one twist fans might not be expecting is the potential time-traveling aspects put forward by God of War Ragnorök‘s latest trailer.

Time travel is no new concept in the God of War series for it was heavily featured in God of War 2, where Kratos traveled to the past to not only prevent his own death at the hands of Zeus but to also bring the Titans to the future to wage war on the Gods of Olympus. Furthermore, Mimir, who tells God of War‘s best stories, recites the tale of how the World Serpent traveled to the past after being sent hurtling through time and space after his battle with Thor during the events of Ragnarök. There is much speculation on how this popular sci-fi theme may be presented in the next game, but the appearance of a new character might just put many questions to rest.

How Time Travel Will Play A Role In Ragnarok’s Story?

Fenrir makes a climatic appearance in the cinematic trailer for God of War Ragnarök, and there are rumors that Hel will also show up during the events of the game. Fenrir, Hel, and The World Serpent all have one thing in common – the fact that they are all the children of Loki and Angrboða according to Norse Mythology. Kratos’ son was revealed to be Loki in the unforeseen and shocking Atreus twist of God of War. With the young god being too young to father Jörmungandr in the first game, and only just meeting Angrboða in the second, many fans are questioning how Fenrir and Hel exist in Ragnorök. Simply put, they may just be from the future. Much like The World Serpent, the remaining children of Loki may also have traveled to the past to partake in the foreboding end of the world.

Odin, God of the Nine Realms, appears to be the next big bad of the series. With Fenrir being prophesied to put an end to the Allfather’s reign, perhaps this giant canine will be an ally to the protagonists- unlike several other Norse gods Kratos met in God of War. There is also the possibility that Kratos and Atreus may travel to the past, or at the very least experience some form of time dilation on their journey through the Nine Realms. It is unlikely whether or not these details will be confirmed from now up until God of War Ragnarök finally drops onto Playstation 4 and 5. Hopefully, fans will now rest easy knowing that the release date is not too far away.
