Hamza & Memphis Had The Most Problematic Storyline In Franchise History (Should They Be Canceled?)

Hamza & Memphis Had The Most Problematic Storyline In Franchise History (Should They Be Canceled?)

    Summary

    • Memphis and Hamza’s relationship was plagued by a language barrier, relying on translator apps and occasional help from Hamza’s sister to communicate.
    • Memphis disrespected Hamza’s mother by breaking the cultural rules and sharing a bed with him, showing a lack of regard for cultural norms.
    • The unplanned pregnancy further complicated their already troubled relationship, leaving Hamza unable to provide for Memphis and their child due to immigration issues.

90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days couple, Memphis Smith and Hamza Moknii had the most problematic storyline in 90 Day Fiancé history and should not be allowed to return to the network. Memphis and Hamza joined the hit reality TV show on season 5. Memphis was 34 years old during the show, and Hamza was 26. Hamza is from Tunisia, and Memphis is a Michigan native. Memphis was already a mom of two with two different baby daddies. She wanted Hamza to play a fatherly figure role to her two children.

Memphis went to Tunisia to meet Hamza and get to know him in person one week, marry him the next, and honeymoon the third week of her trip. Then, she was going to apply for Hamza’s spousal visa. What ended up happening was messy communication, blatant red flags presenting themselves, and unexpected outcomes for the couple. Memphis and Hamza divorced in October 2022 and have a child together. They broke up very shortly after the season 5 Tell All. Hamza is still in America.

Memphis And Hamza Had A Language Barrier

Throughout Memphis and Hamza’s relationship, Hamza could not speak English, and Memphis could not speak Arabic. The extent of the verbal exchange the couple had was repeating “sexy time” to each other over video calls. Therefore, it was painful to watch the couple try to communicate without help. They heavily relied on a translator app, which often misinterpreted what was being said. Hamza’s sister Rawia would also translate sometimes.

Hamza Let Memphis Disrespect His Mom

When Memphis arrived in Tunisia, she stayed under Hamza’s mother’s roof and was instructed not to share a bed or room with Hamza. However, on the very first night, Memphis disobeyed Hamza’s mom’s rules and was caught in bed with Hamza after having “sexy time.” Memphis did not apologize nor respect Hamza’s mom’s authority and cultural rules. Hamza also shares the blame for disrespecting his mom since he allowed Memphis to break the rules.

    Hamza and Memphis Got Pregnant

The most problematic issue the couple faced was Memphis finding out she was pregnant during their honeymoon. That meant she was going back to America pregnant, and Hamza would most likely not be able to be there for his daughter’s birth. Memphis becoming pregnant also meant that she was on baby daddy number three. Moreover, Hamza could not provide for Memphis or their child while he was in limbo with his immigration.

Memphis and Hamza broke up shortly after Memphis gave birth. And, according to Hamza, Memphis refused to let him see their daughter despite court orders. He has opened up numerous times online about how much he misses his daughter and wishes he could see her. Hamza moved to Illinois, far away from his daughter during the whole divorce process as well. So Memphis and Hamza created a broken home with their reckless relationship that was not realistically thought out.

Hamza May Have Been Trying To Get To America

Since everything between Memphis and Hamza played out so badly for everyone involved, there is cause to wonder what the motivations in their case were. Hamza and Memphis’s pregnancy was unplanned, but they also did nothing to prevent it. It could have been Hamza’s intention to build a stronger immigration case to come to America more quickly if a child was involved in their marriage. Memphis seemed to be in a relationship with Hamza out of desperation to be loved and provide a father for her children.

90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days star Memphis Smith looking serious

Despite his marriage lasting less than two years, Hamza has managed to stay in America, and Memphis seems to be salty over that. Around the time of their divorce, Memphis, without naming names, put Hamza on blast and called the 90 Day Fiancé network the “devil’s work.” Memphis’ mom also got in on the Hamza bashing and said that Hamza used her daughter after Memphis provided everything for him. Memphis went on a series of religiously written rampages seemingly aimed at her ex and time on the show.

Memphis and Hamza may have loved each other at one point, but they were living in a fantasy world at that time. Real-life issues of communication barriers, ulterior motives, desperation, and unrealistic expectations played heavy parts in why their relationship was doomed from the start. In addition, Memphis and Hamza added a child into their impractical situation and have failed to bring their child peace in the aftermath of their marriage. Given all their collective and individual red flags, neither should be allowed back into the 90 Day Fiancé spotlight.
