“I’d Almost Be Quite Frightened To Try”

“I’d Almost Be Quite Frightened To Try”

The King’s Man star Harris Dickinson has responded to rumors he is currently in the running to take over as the next James Bond. Even before Daniel Craig departed the role following 2021’s No Time To Die, speculation has been rife about which actor might be tapped to replace him. Speculations have ranged from Kraven the Hunter‘s Aaron Taylor-Johnson to Luther‘s Idris Elba to Harris Dickinson, himself coming off a stint in the spy action genre with the 2021 Kingsman prequel, The King’s Man.

Speaking with Total Film, Dickinson was quizzed about the rumors and speculations for his potential Bond casting. In a turn around from previous statements where he had downplayed the possibility of landing the role, he now admitted that “you’d be a fool” to not entertain the chance if it was given to him, though also expressed his concerns to follow after Craig’s performance. Check out his comments below:

I mean, listen, man, you’d be a fool to not entertain that role. I’m loving seeing the development of James Bond and seeing how it changes over the years. I think Daniel Craig was such a good Bond that I’d almost be quite frightened to try. Who knows what they’re doing with Bond? I’m intrigued.

Why James Bond Casting Decisions Are A Matter Of Finding The Right Time

“I’d Almost Be Quite Frightened To Try”

At just 27 years of age, Harris Dickinson is likely a touch too young in many eyes to be considered for the coveted role of James Bond at this point in his career. With long-term Bond producer Barbara Broccoli previously shooting down the idea of casting a 007 in his 20s, Dickinson may very well find himself out of the running if the intent is to make the next franchise entry anytime soon. That being said, just because his age would make him an unlikely candidate right now, it may not necessarily discount him from the role altogether.

As one of the longest running and most well-known characters in cinema history, over the years multiple actors have been courted to assume the coveted role, but not always at the right time. When Sean Connery first resigned as Bond during production on 1967’s You Only Live Twice, producers had approached a young Timothy Dalton to replace him. While Dalton would ultimately turn down the role for believing he was too young, he would later return for 1987’s The Living Daylights. Similarly, both Pierce Brosnan and Roger Moore were each provided earlier opportunities to play Bond before their respective debuts.

At this stage, there is little indication when viewers might expect an official casting announcement, let alone learn when the next James Bond movie will be released. If producers take enough time, it may even be possible Dickinson could be an appropriate age by the time the next movie comes around. Either way, the actor will have a lot of competition if he is serious about his desires to pursue the role.
