Upcoming game Puffpals: Island Skies – set to release in alpha for PC and Mac next year – will be featured at the upcoming Wholesome Direct video game showcase following an extremely successful Kickstarter campaign that raised over 2 million dollars. The adorable life simulator has all the makings of a game that fans of the genre are sure to love, with more information on the title to be revealed soon. The Wholesome Direct itself is focused exclusively on cozy indie games, and players can count on many other wholesome titles being revealed during the showcase.
The Puffpals: Island Skies Kickstarter campaign first began on April 6, 2022, and in the next month managed to raise over 2 million dollars for the game’s development. This amount raised far exceeded the campaign’s goal of $75,000, with backers collectively unlocking every stretch goal listed by developer Fluffnest. The adorable life simulator incorporates the plushies also made by Fluffnest in a manner that will undoubtedly sound familiar to many cozy game players, particularly Animal Crossing: New Horizon fans. Players can farm, explore unique biomes, collect resources, and decorate their homes alongside these anthropomorphic animal friends.
Puffpals: Island Skies will be featured at the cozy game-centric showcase Wholesome Direct this June, Destructoid reports. A teaser trailer from the Wholesome Games Youtube channel features a snippet of Island Skies gameplay, showing the player harvesting an anthropomorphic carrot in their garden. Not much is known about what the future holds for Puffpals: Island Skies‘ development – players will have to wait until the Wholesome Direct airs on June 11 to learn more about the successfully-backed title. The entire 2022 Wholesome Direct will feature nearly 100 indie games, including a sequel to the critically-acclaimed visual novel Coffee Talk, Coffee Talk Episode 2: Hibiscus & Butterfly.
Although the Wholesome Direct is sure to offer many titles that appeal to cozy game fans, the extreme success of Puffpals: Island Skies‘ Kickstarter campaign means the game has an undoubtedly high amount of hype surrounding it. The game’s incredibly cute art style coupled with its relaxing gameplay already checks off many boxes for what fans of the genre want in a cozy game, and the adorable added twist of anthropomorphic crops increases the uniqueness and appeal of the title even more. However, it’s important for excited fans to note the game is still in the early stages of development – the first alpha version of the game isn’t even planned for release until 2023.
With the growing popularity of the cozy game genre, many developers have offered their own unique takes on creating relaxing gameplay experiences.
