Jim Carrey might be looking to steal Christmas one more time.
The actor, who played The Grinch in the 2000 movie How the Grinch Stole Christmas, shared in a recent interview with Comicbook.com that he would be open to returning for a sequel but under one condition.
“Oh, gosh, you know, if we could figure out the Grinch,” Carrey said when asked if he could play one of his iconic characters again. “The thing about it is, on the day, I do that with a ton of makeup and can hardly breathe. It was an extremely excruciating process.”
He continued, “The children were in my mind all the time. ‘It’s for the kids. It’s for the kids. It’s for the kids.’ And now, with motion capture and things like that, I could be free to do other things. Anything is possible in this world.”
The Bruce Almighty actor starred in the Ron Howard-directed film, however, it wasn’t without its difficulties as he had to wear a full-body prosthetic green suit and makeup for the character, sitting in makeup for hours each day ahead of filming. So if he could play The Grinch via motion capture, the actor’s all in.
The holiday classic, based on the character created by the late children’s author and cartoonist Dr. Seuss, follows a revenge-seeking Grinch, who lives on the outskirts of Whoville and plans to ruin Christmas for all the town’s citizens.
Over the last decade, Carrey has taken a step back from acting and is very selective on which projects he takes on. However, fans will see him reprise his role as Dr. Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, zooming into theaters on Dec. 20.
As for his reasoning for returning for the sequel, the Dumb and Dumber star recently admitted to the Associated Press, “I came back to this universe because, first of all, I get to play a genius, which is a bit of a stretch. And, you know, it’s just… I bought a lot of stuff, and I need the money, frankly.”
