The upcoming Fletch reboot starring Jon Hamm as the titular reporter Irwin “Fletch” Fletcher, has received an official fall release date.
Miramax’s upcoming comedy reboot Confess, Fletch has received an official release date. First adapted for the big screen by Michael Ritchie in 1985, the new picture directed by Greg Mottola was announced in July 2020 and stars Jon Hamm as a slightly more put-together iteration of the investigative reporter Irwin “Fletch” Fletcher. Framed for murder while investigating the theft of his heiress girlfriend’s art collection, the movie follows Fletch on a mission to prove his innocence by exposing the real killer.
Now, according to Deadline, Confess, Fletch is officially scheduled to premiere on September 16. With the distribution rights acquired by Paramount Global Content Distribution, the comedy film will enjoy a limited theatrical run alongside a simultaneous release to premium VOD. The picture will then become exclusively available through Showtime on October 28.
Based on the popular book series written by Gregory Mcdonald, screen adaptations of Fletch have been plagued by setbacks since the cult success of the original films starring Chevy Chase. Though prominent Hollywood names, including Kevin Smith and Jason Sudeikis, have previously tried and failed to reboot the series, Mottola’s adaptation (focusing on the second Fletch novel published in 1976) officially commenced production in Boston last year. Reuniting Mad Men stars Hamm and John Slattery, the cast of Confess, Fletch also includes the likes of Marcia Gay Harden (Mystic River), Kyle MacLachlan (Twin Peaks), Annie Mumolo (Bridesmaids), Lorenza Izzo (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood), Ayden Mayeri (I Love That for You) and Roy Wood Jr.
