After previously being against the idea, Lana Parrilla revealed she would now embrace a Once Upon a Time revival happening. Since Jennifer Morrison previously said that Once Upon a Time deserves a reboot and Colin O’Donoghue didn’t reject the idea, Parrilla’s comments are fascinating.
As the kind of show that fans loved theorizing about, Once Upon a Time had a passionate following. On top of that, the show’s actors seemed to really value starring in Once Upon a Time during and after the time that the show was still airing.
During an appearance on the I’ve Never Said This Before With Tommy DiDario podcast, Parrilla explained what Once Upon a Time meant to her. Parrilla explained that her gratitude for her Once Upon a Time experience convinced her to embrace the idea of a revival series. Check out her comments below:
“I’ve always had mixed feelings about it because the series ran for so long. I was like, I don’t know what more we can tell; these characters have been so deeply fleshed out. But, there’s always more stories. And that character has a huge piece of my heart, so I would be open to it for sure.
What I forgot about over the years is how great the writing is. I mean, I know the writing is great; it has to start with that for a show to be successful. But I forgot how many quotes were great in it and how they were like more lessons for people. People grew from these characters and their lives changed, and that was something I don’t think I would’ve understood had I not been meeting the fans over the years like I do.
I would go back to (creators) Adam (Horowitz) and Eddie (Kitsis) and say, “Do you guys realize what you’ve done?” It’s changed lives. That’s the first time I’ve ever been a part of something that magical. It will always hold a dear place in my heart. Once Upon a Time is a very special show.”
What Lana Parrilla’s Interest In A Once Upon A Time Revival Means
In order for a Once Upon a Time revival to become reality, there are two main things that would need to happen. First off, enough of Once Upon a Time’s original stars would have to embrace the idea of returning to their characters from the original show. Many previous efforts to revive beloved series have failed to get the necessary actors to buy into it.
With Lana Parrilla expressing interest in returning for a Once Upon a Time revival, that is a huge step. After all, since Parrilla’s portrayal of Regina Mills and the Evil Queen was a huge part of Once Upon a Time, it is hard to imagine any revival existing without her.
On top of Parrilla, Jennifer Morrison, and Colin O’Donoghue expressing openness to a revival series, Ginnifer Goodwin has also publicly supported the idea. As a result, there appears to be a trend of Once Upon a Time stars being willing to return to their roles.
The second thing that must happen for a Once Upon a Time revival to exist is support from a network or streamer. As of the time of this writing, there hasn’t been any public indication that ABC has any real interest in bringing Once Upon a Time back.
However, since Once Upon a Time has extremely passionate fans and networks have embraced revival series in recent years, ABC may yet allow the show to return. It could also potentially return as a Disney+ show since ABC is owned by Disney, and all seasons are available to watch on the streaming platform.
Our Take On Whether There Should Be A Once Upon A Time Revival
When there are lots of devoted fans who miss a show like Once Upon a Time, it is hard to root against a revival being produced. Despite that, I still believe that a Once Upon a Time revival is a bad idea.
The Once Upon a Time season 7 ending completed the story, and it seems like there isn’t a good reason to argue for more from a plot perspective. Secondly, Once Upon a Time’s often forgotten spinoff, Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, was canceled after only one season.
Nevertheless, a Once Upon a Time revival could still happen. If a compelling plot for the revival is suggested or new episodes are produced, I will definitely be watching.
