The developers of Lollipop Chainsaw Remake have announced that the game will be missing most of the licensed soundtrack from the original title.
There’s a Lollipop Chainsaw remake on the way, but the developers have already given some bad news about the final product, as it will be missing a key part of the original game. A Lollipop Chainsaw remake is welcome, as it can’t be played on modern systems. The Xbox 360 version of Lollipop Chainsaw is not on the Xbox Series X/S backward compatibility list, nor is it available to purchase on PS4 or PS5.
Lollipop Chainsaw was an action game released for the PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2012. The game starred Juliet Starling, a high schooler who must carve through the hordes of zombies that have appeared in her school. One of Juliet’s classmates has summoned The Dark Purveyors: five incredibly powerful zombies, with the ability to turn the living into the walking dead. It’s up to Juliet and her undead-hunting family to slay the zombies and take down The Dark Purveyors. In recent years, Lollipop Chainsaw might be best-known for being a collaboration between Suda51 and James Gunn, before the latter found mainstream success directing movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
It has been announced that a Lollipop Chainsaw remake is releasing in 2023, though it’s unclear which platforms it will be on. As originally a PS3 and Xbox 360 title, the Lollipop Chainsaw remake could potentially appear on all modern platforms, even the Nintendo Switch. Producer Yoshimi Yasuda told IGN that the Lollipop Chainsaw remake will have updated graphics, but it will also be missing an important aspect of the original game.
Lollipop Chainsaw Remake Won’t Have The Full Licensed Soundtrack
Yasuda confirmed that the Lollipop Chainsaw remake will be missing most of its licensed soundtrack, as any deals for the original game won’t carry over to its remake, especially not after all of this time. This means “You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)” by Dead or Alive, “Empire State Human” by the Human League, “Heroes Of Our Time” by Dragonforce, “Rock ‘N’ Roll (Will Take You To The Mountain)” by Skrillex, “Speed” by Atari Teenage Riot, and most importantly, “Lollipop” by The Chordettes are likely gone from the upcoming return of the cult classic Lollipop Chainsaw. Hopefully, the developers will at least be able to get “Lollipop”, as that would be the prime pick if there is only enough money to get one song back for the remake.
Lollipop Chainsaw is hardly the first game to suffer from licensed music woes, especially in recent years, as publishers and the public show more interest in remasters of older titles. The Grand Theft Auto series has been hit hard by this in the past, due to how much licensed music the radio stations feature in each game, which caused problems with the recent Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition. The Lollipop Chainsaw remake doesn’t have quite the financial backing of a Grand Theft Auto trilogy remaster, so fans shouldn’t get their hopes up about many songs returning next year. This is a shame, as the soundtrack was an important part of Lollipop Chainsaw and the remake won’t be quite the same without it.
