Poppy Playtime Fan’s Huggy Wuggy Sculpture Is Too Cute To Be Scary

Poppy Playtime Fan’s Huggy Wuggy Sculpture Is Too Cute To Be Scary

A talented Poppy Playtime fan has shared a look at their impressive handcrafted statue of antagonist Huggy Wuggy, made using foam and 3D printing.

A fan has made an adorable diorama statue of Poppy Playtime antagonist Huggy Wuggy, offering up a much cuter version of the scary in-game character. Huggy Wuggy has been a fan-favorite villain since the game released, and his appearance as a fuzzy blue toy is only one of the many examples of Poppy Playtime‘s juxtaposition of child-friendly imagery with nightmare fuel, which initially sparked some controversy as Poppy Playtime grew in popularity.

The story of Poppy Playtime centers around a conspiracy involving the fictional toy company Playtime Co. Over the course of the story, which now includes both Chapter 1 and 2, the player discovers that Playtime Co. has been experimenting with transferring human consciousness into their toys, which resulted in the creation of horrific, vengeful creatures. Huggy Wuggy (a.k.a Experiment-1006) is one of such creatures, and he spends the first game hunting down the player as they explore the abandoned toy factory. He at first appears to be a cute, large, plush-like friend before bearing an array of razor-sharp, shark-like teeth as he strikes his prey. The character has become synonymous with indie horror gaming, spawning not only official Poppy Playtime Huggy Wuggy merchandise, but also lots of fan-made items from creative players.

Redditor ZaneMorganCrafts has made an impressive diorama of Poppy Playtime‘s Huggy Wuggy, albeit one that depicts his more child-friendly visage. Using foam and a custom 3D-printed model of Huggy Wuggy, the cute statue is based on Huggy’s first appearance in Chapter 1, where Huggy Wuggy pretends to be a friendly-looking statue in order to fool the player. On the creator’s YouTube channel, Zane Morgan Crafts, a video further showcases the process and skill involved in creating the piece, alongside some amusing graphics that resemble the many different Playtime Co. corporate videotapes found in the game. The diorama has been popular with Poppy Playtime fans, although one Redditor, PastFaithlessness975, did jokingly warn that Morgan will need to avoid any air vents in their house if Huggy Wuggy has disappeared the next day, alluding to one of the character’s favored ways to navigate the Playtime Co. factory.

Those impressed with the Poppy Playtime Huggy Wuggy figure might want to check out Zane Morgan Crafts for similarly-impressive models, with pieces inspired by The Lord of The Rings and Labyrinth. Over the past year, Morgan has used foam and 3D printed sculpts made in Blender to make terrain and buildings for Dungeons & Dragons, with one village from the creator inspired by locations seen in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. With lots of new characters in Poppy Playtime Chapter 2, Morgan’s Huggy Wuggy could be joined by Kissy Missy, Mommy Long Legs, or even Poppy herself, should the creator choose to tackle them next.

Poppy Playtime is one of the latest indie horror games to transform child-friendly characters into despicable monsters, but Zane Morgan Crafts has done an excellent job in creating a Huggy Wuggy that remains cute instead of scary. There’s no shortage of areas and characters the creator could design next, making them one to watch as fans patiently wait for more news on Poppy Playtime.
