Post Malone is driving into the comics world behind the wheel of an 18-wheeler.
The singer and songwriter behind hits “Sunflower” and “Circles” has teamed up with Vault Comics for Big Rig, a graphic novel described as Evil Dead meets Mad Max: Fury Road.
Platinum Dunes, the production banner run by Michael Bay and Brad Fuller, is also involved with the comic, and is working with Malone and Vault on developing a feature adaptation.
Based on an idea by Malone, Big Rig is written by the singer and Adrian Wassel, and is being drawn by Nathan Gooden, who previously illustrated Vault’s hit comic Barbaric. The comic will be published later this year, but in order to rev up interest, Vault will release the first chapter exclusively at local comic shops on Free Comic Book Day 2025.
“This is going to kick ass,” said Malone in a statement. “It’s amazing working with Vault and Michael Bay. Turning this idea into what we have has been unbelievable. The team has been crushing it, and I can’t believe we get to be a part of Free Comic Book Day.”
Talent and literary agency UTA was instrumental in putting the pieces together for the creative venture. Vault and Platinum Dunes are repped by the agency, as was Malone at the time (he is now at CAA).
The publisher was already working on comics with such acts as Def Leppard and Metallica and wanted to find a contemporary artist.
“We wanted someone who was at the forefront of pop music,” Vault CEO Damian Wassel, told The Hollywood Reporter, adding the agency put the company in touch with Malone.
Added the executive, who is the brother of writer Adrian Wassel: “He told us ‘I have this idea that I‘ve been trying to see if this would be a cool graphic novel.’ We flew to LA and met with Post. And it sounds like a cliché, but it was a creative match made in heaven.”
The company also wanted to get a filmmaker involved on the ground floor, which led Wassel to Bay and Fuller.
“I love the art, attitude and characters,” stated Bay. “Also I am excited to work with Post Malone and have our creative worlds collide.”
Set in Europe during the Dark Ages, the story sees hordes from Hell invading Europe when the Six Petals, a secret sect of the Knights Templar, pray to God to drive back the demonic scourge. What crashes to earth is The Rig, a fully loaded tractor trailer. In the aftermath of its arrival, the only man left standing is an enigmatic former priest excommunicated from the Six Petals. He will become known simply as Trucker and will lead the fight against Hell behind the wheel of a demon-slaying machine. The tagline is, “They prayed for a miracle. They got 25 tons and 18 wheels of holy weapon.”
Malone last year released his record-breaking album F-1 Trillion, which landed at #1 on the Billboard 200. His album and collaborations earned him eight 2025 Grammy nominations. This spring, he will headline Coachella before hitting the road on his the Big Ass Stadium Tour.
Wassel underscored that the project isn’t a case of a celebrity wanting to create a comic as a vanity project, and said that the singer-rapper is “very involved.”
“The thing with many musicians is that they are often good writers overall, whether they are writing prose or music,” explained Wassel. “His ideas were a ton of fun. We instantly saw the potential to make something incredible.”
