Warning: SPOILERS lie ahead for Sonic the Hedgehog 3!
As the movie races to set a number of records, Ben Schwartz shares his excitement for Sonic the Hedgehog 3‘s post-credits scene’s cameos. Schwartz reprises his role of Sega’s beloved video game icon as he faces the arrival of Shadow the Hedgehog, an anti-hero doppelgänger with a quest for vengeance and a tragic past voiced by Keanu Reeves. With a cast of new and returning faces, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has become the best-reviewed installment in the franchise and is on track to match its predecessor’s box office success.
During a recent interview with ScreenRant ahead of the film’s release, Schwartz opened up about some of Sonic the Hedgehog 3‘s biggest reveals and story moments. The franchise star began by comparing his anticipation for the threequel’s new characters to the introduction of Shadow after the previous sequel’s post-credits, expressing his overall excitement as someone “who loved the video games” for how the roster of characters continues to grow:
I think if we don’t talk about the tag of the last movie, where we see Shadow’s face, I think in Shibuya, the first act of this film, the intro of Shadow against Team Sonic is probably the coolest action sequence. It’s one of the coolest sequences in any of our movies, and it is long. There’s a clip online that starts where they all land. You see the beginning of it that keeps going, and it never stops getting bigger and cooler and stuff like that. And then, you have one of — if not the — biggest set piece near the end. But our tag is, for myself and for someone like you, who loved the video games, something that I think will make people so happy. And then, if you know the video games, you know where we could go with it and all of a sudden you’re like, “Oh my God, I’ve got to see the fourth one on this thing.”
The actor then revealed he had paid attention to fan reactions online for the past movies, but particularly those from the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 trailer, leaving him eager to get the chance to see cinemagoers react in person to the introductions of Metal Sonic and Amy Rose in the new installment. Check out the rest of Schwartz’s explanation below:
My favorite thing is watching trailer reactions when they come out. And then, also, we get to surprise people in some audiences. Like, when Tails came up in the first one, the audience went bananas. When Shadow came up, it went bananas. And hopefully, when this character comes up, I want to be in the room when people see that person.

Sonic The Hedgehog 3 Ending Explained: Shadow & Sonic’s Fight, Major Deaths & Sequel Setup
Sonic the Hedgehog 3’s ending keeps the focus on Sonic’s arc and his dark reflection in Shadow, while also giving Robotnik a great potential send-off.
Despite Dr. Robotnik (Carrey) seemingly sacrificing himself in the movie’s ending, Metal Sonic’s presence and Robotnik’s past death-defying escapes might hint at one last plot being in place, or that the villain may still be active in the world despite his potential demise. Furthermore, both Amy and Metal Sonic made their debuts in Sonic CD, a game whose plot involved elements of control over time. As such, the fourth movie could expand the scope of the franchise with a time-bending adventure that offers much potential.
The Sonic The Hedgehog Movie Franchise Remains Stronger Than Ever
Amy Rose and Metal Sonic are two of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise’s most beloved characters. While their origins may lie in the original 2D era, they have remained at the forefront of the franchise throughout the game’s transition into its 3D era and more modern entries, both as playable characters and in key supporting roles. As such, both of them have incredibly strong fanbases who have been eager to see them make the leap to the big-screen.
