SPECIAL EDITION | THE MALIBU HOUSE
CASA ZUMA IS HOME
Letter from Camille
Every morning, Adam and I start the day with a walk on the beach. When we get home, we open the doors, make coffee, and settle into the rhythms of our day. These moments feel simple, but they’re the life we imagined six years ago when we first discovered the property that would become Casa Zuma.
At the time, it was an overgrown acre above Zuma Beach with a faded 1950s bungalow and a lot of work ahead. Still, something about it felt instantly familiar—the ocean filling the horizon, jasmine perfuming the drive, and palms swaying overhead. We spent our first summer there living in the bungalow just as it was, walking to the beach, choosing dinner at the farmstand, and gathering around the firepit at sunset. We discovered a simplicity we didn’t know we’d been craving.
That feeling became our vision for Casa Zuma: breathing space, both literally and figuratively. A close connection with the outdoors, doors that could stay open all day, and plenty of room for bringing people together.
Casa Zuma also became our creative muse. The first object I designed for the house was a ceramic mug for our slow mornings. It became the Ritual Mug and, eventually, the beginning of the Casa Zuma brand. As the house evolved, I continued creating and collecting pieces inspired by life here.
The renovation took six years. Our plans changed, our children grew, and our family moved through entire chapters of life. Now that we’re finally home, I can see that Casa Zuma was never just a renovation project. It was a way of asking ourselves how we wanted our days to feel—and then creating a home and a life around the answer.
This Sourcebook is my way of opening the doors and sharing it with you. I’ll take you through Casa Zuma room by room, revealing the decisions, materials, makers, and sources that brought it to life. My hope is that you’ll find ideas to carry into your own home—not to recreate this one, but to make more room for the people, rituals, and moments that make you feel most alive.
