What Are the Best Essential Oil Combinations for the Home?

Did you know that the global essential oils market is expected to reach an estimated $14.1 billion by 2026? These solutions might come in small bottles but they have a very large following across the U.S. and beyond.

Whether you want to evoke a sense of peace and tranquility, or you need a bolt of energy to get you through a difficult task, there’s an oil out there for you. It only takes a few drops to completely transform the scent that surrounds your home.

While they’re powerful on their own, have you ever thought of trying some unique essential oil combinations? From fruity and floral to musky and woodsy, there are many different ones that work well together.

Today, we’re sharing some of our favorites, so feel free to get creative and start blending!

    Lemon and Clove

What do you get when you blend the bright, citrusy notes of lemon with the warm and spicy scent of cloves? The result is an utterly scrumptious, intoxicating blend that you’ll want to diffuse in every nook and cranny of your home.

This is one of those unique aromatherapy blends that start out simple and eventually morph into something more complex and multi-faceted. It’s an especially inviting scent in your kitchen, bathroom, or laundry room, where you want just the right amount of freshness.

If you love the scent of lemon, you can similar notes to several different blends for a zesty touch! Check out these citrus scent diffuser oils for more inspiration.

    Eucalyptus and Lavender

Want to create an at-home spa night? While your bathtub is filling up with suds and your skincare products are waiting on the counter, go ahead and grab these two oil diffuser scents.

Eucalyptus and lavender are both natural-smelling and woodsy. They’re sure to help you relax and unwind after a hard day, and can even encourage you to drift into dreamland. Try adding these oils to a spray bottle with water and spritzing your pillowcase before you hop into bed for the night.

    Grapefruit and Ylang-Ylang

No matter what the weather looks like outside, you can bring a little springtime indoors by diffusing a few drops of grapefruit and ylang-ylang together!

These are two of the brightest scents around, and you can find them in a ton of different essential oil recipes. This specific blend is also great with a few drops of lavender added to the mix. It’s a great blend to showcase in your living room, sunroom, or bedroom when you want to make your own sunshine!

    Lemon and Peppermint

Let’s be honest. We all have those moments when it just feels difficult to focus. We’re distracted and overwhelmed, with our attention pulled in a million different directions.

If you work or do schoolwork from home, these days can be especially challenging. That’s when it’s time to try some essential oil blends for energy and mental clarity. Lemon and peppermint are popular picks.

Studies show that peppermint candy or tea might help increase alertness and cognitive processing speeds. It may also help uplift your mood and improve your mental performance. If you don’t have a bag of candies close by, then the essential oil is the next best thing!

    Sweet Orange and Patchouli

Is autumn your favorite season? Do you live for days when the air feels crisp, the leaves crunch underneath your feet, and there’s a mug of hot cider between your mittened hands?

If you can’t always have that type of weather at home, you can make your house smell like it year-round! Add a couple of drops of sweet orange and patchouli together, and you’ll have fall in a bottle. In addition to diffusing it, you can also add this blend to a basket of dried pinecones and leave it on your living room table for an all-day scent.

    Rosemary and Spearmint

Does a cold have you feeling icky? While you wait for your medicine to kick in, you can try a few natural remedies to help open up your nasal passages so you can breathe easier.

One of those is to inhale a fresh and clean essential oil blend, such as one made with a few drops of rosemary and spearmint. These two oils are like taking a deep breath on the first snowfall of the winter. While it may not shorten the duration of your illness, you should find temporary comfort and relief.

    Lemongrass and Cypress

The next time you’re making a solution to wash your hardwood floors, add some lemongrass and cypress oil to the mix. Three to four drops each should be all you need to help your home look and smell its best!

These scents are reminiscent of hiking through the woods, and they add a touch of freshness and cleanliness to your home.

    Cinnamon and Melaleuca

On its own, melaleuca can be very powerful. Also known as tea tree oil, it’s more akin to an astringent, used to help treat everything from acne to athlete’s foot. When paired with cinnamon, it’s more toned down and accessible.

If you’re looking for a deep scent that’s also surprisingly delicate, this is the one for you. Try diffusing it in a guest bathroom, or adding a few drops to a pot of water over the stove. It’s a rich and spicy blend that’s welcoming and warm.

Try These Essential Oil Combinations at Home

Whether you’ve been using essential oils for years or you’re brand new to them, there’s a seemingly endless list of options for you to explore and enjoy.

These are only a few of the great essential oil combinations you can try. We suggest investing in a set and then mixing a few of your favorites together. You may come up with a new, signature blend you’ve never heard of before!
