The Odyssey’s theatrical run is setting records for Christopher Nolan with the film being met with almost unanimous praise, but the auteur may already be contemplating his next film.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the director discussed his thoughts on a horror film, which the publication said “the world keeps begging” him to make.
The publication pointed out The Odyssey has several horror sub-genres and asked the filmmaker if that whetted his appetite for the style.
“It very much whets my appetite for more,” Nolan told The Hollywood Reporter. “But I’ve always believed that horror as a genre has to be approached very carefully from a conceptual point of view.” The director said that means “you have to have an amazing idea” for a horror film. He pointed to Curry Barker’s recent hit of a movie Obsession, saying it is “an amazing idea” and “works like a motherfucker.”

For Nolan, a horror film wouldn’t be about the technical side of filmmaking. “It’s not about what technical itches I would have to scratch. It’s about story. So I’m always looking.”
What story might that be? Nolan may have given a bit of a hint at a horror writer he would like to adapt.
Noting Robert Pattinson gave the director a book of Oppenheimer speeches at the wrap of Tenet, setting off the dominoes for the seven-Oscar winning about the maker of the atomic bomb, The Hollywood Reporter asked about a gift from the actor when The Odyssey was done.
“Did Rob hand me some horror novel by Stephen King that’ll make an excellent adaptation? Sadly, no, that is not the case,” Nolan said.
It might not be the case, but it does bring a hell of a prospect to mind.
