NJ Elementary School Is Stripped Of ‘Thomas Jefferson’ Name Over Slavery

NJ Elementary School Is Stripped Of ‘Thomas Jefferson’ Name Over Slavery

In yet another ridiculous example of “woke” ideology and attempts to erase American history, Jefferson Elementary School in New Jersey is changing its name after a year-long effort to rid the school of its association with the author of the Declaration of Independence.

    Why? Because Jefferson owned slaves.

The South Orange school’s new name will be Delia Bolden elementary. It will take the name of the first black woman in the area to graduate from high school.

But yet democrats keep ripping down statues, renaming schools and changing names on government buildings. Sounds like democrats are hiding and running away from history

    Elementary School Children Super Woke?

According to Fox News, the new name was selected from a list of local historical figures and other, unrelated names.

One of the proposals, curiously not chosen, was “Ruth Bader Ginsburg Elementary School.” Oddly, “Ronald Reagan Elementary School” did not appear on the selection list.

The school itself claims that the move was a year long initiative by the students. But one can surmise that 7-year-olds were probably not the driving force behind the woke initiative.

One school board member, Qawi Telesford, said:

“I want to make that point that Thomas Jefferson owned over 600 slaves. He freed two while he was alive and seven after he died, which basically means I have a 1.5% chance of being free in Thomas Jefferson’s world. So, I am not thankful to him. I am thankful to the people who made sure that I could actually be free and be on the board with you today.”

A reminder, again, that Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence and was instrumental in freeing America from the yoke of King George.

How about educate our kids with skills they need for the future instead of renaming schools. Why do taxpayers want to spend money on that? Stop with the revisionist history. Our past isn’t our future. Stop dwelling on it and move on.

Down With Founders, Up With Drug Dealers

The practice of tearing down statues of Christopher Columbus and the Founding Fathers is a fashionable trend with the left. What goes up in their place tell you everything you need to know about what is important to liberals, be it real or fictitious.

Recently, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, statues of the main characters of the hit TV show “Breaking Bad” were unveiled. The show was about a high school chemistry teacher and one of his students, and their experiences as meth cooks and dealers, with a few murders thrown in. Over 200 murders, actually.

To some it might seem an off choice to glorify. The leading causes of drug overdoses in the Land of Enchantment in 2020, the most recent statistics available, were meth, fentanyl, and prescription opioids.

What did the guys from “Breaking Bad” replace? History of course. For some a distasteful history, but history nonetheless. The statue of Juan de Onate. He is most known for the Spanish colonization of New Mexico, and was the first colonial Governor.

Last September in New York City, statues of Teddy Roosevelt and Thomas Jefferson came down. In their place, civil rights activist and former Congressman John Lewis, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd.

And who could forget the woke mob in Madison, Wisconsin tearing down a statue of Hans Christian Heg? That man was a Norwegian immigrant and abolitionist who gave his life as a Union soldier.

That’s why we’re tearing statues down across the country https://t.co/EbDnyQ3IeD

When The Left Fights Each Other

It does get rather amusing when the left pick a fight with each other to see is the most woke. Back in April of 2021, Waukegan, Illinois also wanted to rename two schools that bore the name of Thomas Jefferson and Daniel Webster.

All were on board with the name change, until the board suggested renaming one of the schools after former President and Chicago native Barack Obama. The largely Latino community in Waukegan vehemently objected, citing Obama’s record of deporting illegal immigrants. Ultimately in that case, the schools were renamed after Lewis, and Edith Smith, who fought to desegregate Waukegan schools.

As so many today describe what is happening in America as “Orwellian,” or “something out of 1984,” George Orwell may have been prophetic about the end goal of the left.

He said, “Who controls that past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past.”

Republicans erasing the past? I don’t think it was Republicans pulling down statues or renaming schools of buildings since 2020, especially during the riots. Some of the statues were reminders of our past so we didn’t repeat it, while others were of creators of this great Country
