It’s official, the all-electric Hyundai IONIQ 5 robotaxi service is now live in Seoul’s bustling Gangnam District using in-house developed level 4 autonomous driving technology. This pilot program, called RoboRide, also marks the very first time that a car-hailing service with autonomous driving vehicles has been approved for operation in Gangnam.
The pilot program will be used to collect valuable autonomous driving data and plans to further develop the level 4 autonomous driving technology to navigate safely in even the most extreme urban environments. For added safety, an in-house developed remote vehicle assist system monitors autonomous driving status, vehicle and route, while also supporting the trip with remote assist functions. Level 4 autonomy means that a RoboRide vehicle will not only perceive, but also make decisions, and control its own driving status. However, you won’t be seeing this 2009 Hyundai Accent turned Ford Mustang on their roads anytime soon.
