Gerry Turner Revealed Cancer Diagnosis Last Year
Gerry Turner faced a lot of negative press in the summer of 2024 after his sudden divorce from Theresa Nist. The two met and fell in love on the first season of The Golden Bachelor. They married in a televised wedding two months after their engagement aired on the November 2023 season finale.
They were married in January but the marriage was over just three months later. But even his harshest critics couldn’t help but wish him well when he revealed in late 2024 that he was diagnosed with the incurable bone cancer Waldenström’s macroglobulinemia.
He later said that his diagnosis, which came in early 2024, played a role in his split from Theresa Nist. She denied the allegation.
Golden Bachelor Star Makes Important Announcement
Gerry Turner went public in April 2025 with his new relationship with a woman named Lana. But that wasn’t his first post-divorce romance. He dated one of his Golden Bachelor contestants after ending his marriage to Theresa.
The former reality star has been living his best life despite the cancer diagnosis. He’s enjoyed several trips overseas and road trips here in the U.S. But his cancer is never far from his mind.
Gerry Turner took to Instagram on Monday, September 15, with a very important announcement about his cancer battle. He shared that the entire month of September is cancer awareness month and September 15 specifically is National Lymphoma Giving Day.
Any donations given today are matched, which doubles the amount of money given for research to help find a cure. He directed his followers to the Lymphoma Research Foundation to donate.
“It’s a great day to help save lives,” he said at the end of the announcement.
He received a lot of support on the post. One fan wrote, “What an excellent example of a cancer fighter! I wish you many more years of happiness Gerry!”
Another said, “Keep fighting!!! You have a lot to live for.”
Gerry Turner’s Upcoming Memoir Details
Fans will get to know more about Gerry Turner’s story soon. He’s releasing a memoir in November about his life, as well as his time on the ABC reality show. Theresa Nist expressed concern that he might portray her in a negative light.
The former married couple is on good terms for now, but don’t speak much. Golden Years: What I’ve Learned from Love, Loss, and Reality TV hits bookstores on Tuesday, November 4.
