RuPaul’s Drag Race Fan Favorite Dead
Over the years, RuPaul’s Drag Race has helped launch the careers of many prominent drag queens. Furthermore, it has allowed those in the drag community to shine brighter than ever before. Unfortunately, some of the show’s most favorite stars have tragically passed away. This not only breaks the hearts of their co-stars but also the viewers who have come to know and love them. Sadly, this has happened once again, and it was announced in the early hours of February 23rd, 2026.
Maxi Shield, who was born as Kristopher Elliot, died at the tender age of 51. The news was broken via drag queen superstar, Vanity, on their social media. They shared a sweet photo alongside Maxi with a tribute to the beloved personality. Viewers may remember Maxi from the Down Under version of RuPaul’s Drag Race as she placed sixth in Season 1. This aired in 2021, and viewers came to love her on the show. However, she was diagnosed with throat cancer in the fall of 2025.
As of now, no cause of death has been revealed by Maxi’s family or friends. Yet, it is believed that the throat cancer could have been the reason. As soon as fans and followers saw Vanity’s post, hearts were broken. Those who knew Maxi chimed in with how much they loved and treasured the time that they got to spend together. Of course, many were devastated to learn of this death as it was very unexpected.
