Stephen Baldwin Has Been Part Of A Number Of Films & Shows, From The Usual Suspects To Celebrity Big Brother
Stephen is the youngest of the Baldwin brothers, a family made up of professional performers, including his brothers Alec, Daniel, and William. He himself also has two daughters, Alaia and Hailey..
As an actor, Stephen has appeared in a number of films, such as The Usual Suspects, and has starred in the television series The Young Riders. Over the years, he has also appeared in a number of reality series. These include Celebrity Big Brother and The Celebrity Apprentice.
In a recent interview, Baldwin recently opened up about leaving Hollywood behind, sharing what he found to be more important. Speaking with People, he also noted why he didn’t feel drawn to chasing stardom.
Looking at the success that followed his role in The Usual Suspects, Stephen noted, “I probably could have pointed myself in the direction of becoming a big star. But that wasn’t me. I didn’t want to be Tom Cruise and have to make $100 million at the box office. I’d rather be a schmuck from Massapequa.”
Embracing born-again Christianity in 2001, Baldwin claimed that his priorities shifted. As the actor noted, he and his wife, Kennya, once hired a Brazilian housekeeper who believed that she had been sent by God to help them. At the time, she believed that the couple would one day start a ministry.
Baldwin Admitted That A Skate Park Led To A Big Change For Him
Stephen explained, “My wife tells me, ‘I just spoke to Augusta, and she said the real reason she’s here is because God spoke to her, and she said in the future you and I will become born-again Christians and have our own ministry.’” Stephen admitted that he was originally skeptical, but changed his mind after attending faith-based events with family.
Interestingly, it was a skate park that proved to cause a shift in his faith. As Baldwin explained, “Down on the beach, they had built a skate park on the sand with plywood. And these funky, super committed, cool, tattooed, pierced skateboarders were there and they’d skate, stop, pick up a microphone and start preaching evangelistically, and like 5,000 kids would be around watching because of their interest in the skateboarders.”
Stephen noted, “I felt a calling.” He would later create a faith-oriented skate video, Livin’ It. Things took a turn when he and skaters from the video were invited to an event. He continued, “So that’s when I left Hollywood. I went to 125 churches over four years. Jesus and the Holy Spirit fascinated me.”
Stephen admitted that people in Hollywood aren’t always accepting of people’s faiths. He shared, however, that he is more concerned with the people that it reaches. He shared, “I get a lot of DMs from people who tell me how my work has touched them and that’s all that matters. I’m happy to be where I’m now at 60. I’m so blessed. And I absolutely believe that the best is yet to come.”
