‘Y&R’ Shemar Moore Talks Soap Return With Vivica A. Fox

Actor Shemar Moore is known for a variety of roles. However, the star made his big break on The Young and the Restless. In fact, it was recently announced that Moore would be returning to his roots, reprising his role on the soap. Before this, he recently opened up about his return, including his co-stars. This even includes Vivica A. Fox, who is also making her own return.

Shemar Moore First Joined The Young And The Restless As Malcolm Winters In The 1990s

Moore is known to many for his work on S.W.A.T. playing Sergeant II Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson and Derek Morgan on Criminal Minds. However, he got his start on soap operas.

Moore joined the cast of The Young and the Restless as Malcolm Winters in 1994. He would stay in the role, off and on, for over a decade. He even made guest appearances on the series as late as 2023.

Back in February, however, it was announced that Moore would be making his return as Malcolm. Fans will see him on the soap on April 7, 2026. Joining him would be actress Vivica A. Fox, who is also reprising her role of Stephanie Simmons.

Talking about his return with TV Insider, Moore shared, “I feel humbled and honored and nostalgic.” However, he admitted one thing surprised him as he stepped back into Malcolm’s shoes.

As the actor shared, “I also have a bone to pick with Young and the Restless because all I was asked was, ‘Would I be willing to come back for a cool little story?’ And my mother raised me to always remember where you came from, but I didn’t know they were gonna make me memorize 124 pages for three days of work [Laughs]! Even when I was Malcolm for real all those years back, I never did 124 pages!”

Moore Also Expressed Admiration For One Co-Star Who Was No Longer With Us

In a somber moment, Moore mourned Kristoff St. John, who played his character’s brother on the soap prior to his death in 2019. He also expressed admiration for some of his castmates on the show.

Moore shared, “I had a lot of fun working with Christel Khalil [Lily Winters] and Bryton [James, Devon Winters] and then of course, Vivica Fox [Stephanie Simmons].” It had been a while since he and Fox worked together on the soap, but the two had still crossed paths over the years. In fact, Moore revealed that the actress even had a pet name for him.

As Moore noted, “Vivica’s done what she’s done, and she’s a sweetheart, and we’ve kept up. She calls me, ‘Shemarsky.’ I’ve had a lot of nicknames, but there’s one person in this world that calls me ‘Shemarsky,’ and that’s Vivica Fox. I just heard from down the hallway, ‘Shemarsky!’ and I was like, ‘Vivica is in the building.’” Later, Moore added, “Vivica is a hoot. She’s funny, and she was finding humor in scenes where there wasn’t humor. It was all good.”

While promising a reunion, Moore made sure to remember who wouldn’t be there. During the conversation, Moore continued to share a few kind words towards St. John. As he shared, “He was a big brother to me on the screen. He was a big brother to me and a mentor in real life.”
