Batman has undergone countless redesigns since his DC Comics debut in 1939, with nearly every new era putting its own spin on the Dark Knight’s unmistakable look. His earliest appearances established the cape, cowl, and bat emblem that remain essential today, but everything from the blue-and-gray costumes of the Silver Age to Frank Miller’s hulking interpretation, Tim Burton’s armored Batsuit, and the more tactical designs of the Arkham games have dramatically evolved the character over time.
Few versions, however, have transformed Batman as completely as the Batman Who Laughs. Introduced as a nightmarish alternate-universe Bruce Wayne corrupted by the Joker, the character traded Batman’s traditional heroic silhouette for a spiked metal visor, sinister grin, and horror-inspired aesthetic that quickly became one of DC’s most recognizable modern designs.
Now, the Batman Who Laughs is getting another horrifying redesign that somehow manages to make this already terrifying version of Batman even more disturbing (via Pure Arts).
Batman Who Laughs is getting a horrifying new collectible courtesy of PureArts, which has unveiled a life-size 1:1 Scale Art Mask based on the character’s unmistakable DC Comics design. The piece takes the already disturbing Batman variant and pushes him toward photorealistic horror, recreating his enormous exposed grin, jagged teeth, signature metal visor, and black leather aesthetic with heavily weathered detailing.
Despite the “mask” name, this isn’t actually something buyers can wear, unfortunately, but it is a 20-inch-tall polyresin display piece weighing roughly 14 pounds, and it’s considered a high-end collectible display piece that hardcore fans are definitely going to want to reserve.
The design originates with the Batman Who Laughs, the nightmare Batman variant introduced as part of DC’s Dark Nights: Metal era. Hailing from the Dark Multiverse’s Earth-22, this version of Bruce Wayne essentially combines Batman’s intelligence and preparation with the Joker’s cruelty after becoming corrupted, turning one of DC’s greatest heroes into one of its most disturbing villains.
The character became one of the breakout additions from Metal, whose twisted alternate Batmen were visually shaped around the dark aesthetic associated with Greg Capullo’s artwork.
PureArts’ design takes the original version to the extreme, with even more unsettling by giving it realistic skin, teeth, leather, and metal textures that are straight-up nightmare fuel. The head sits on a cave-inspired rock formation wrapped in chains, while two magnetic swarms of bats surround the display.
The PureArts Exclusive Edition also adds a removable axe that can be attached to the base, along with an individually numbered bottom plate and matching certificate of authenticity.
Preorders are available now directly through PureArts for $799 USD, with the Exclusive Edition limited to only 250 pieces worldwide. PureArts lists worldwide availability and currently expects the collectible to begin shipping in Q3 2027, putting its estimated release between July and September.
The company notes that the product is still in production, with preorder purchases subject to a 15% deposit allocation, and payment-plan options are also offered through the listing. Images currently show a prototype, meaning the final version could differ slightly from what has been revealed. Even so, this limited-edition Batman release is definitely going to be a hot item among hardcore collectors.
