Cyberpunk 2077 Thrives On Its Most Underrated Feature

Cyberpunk 2077 Thrives On Its Most Underrated Feature

Cyberpunk 2077 has a tremendous and underrated attention to detail, although many instances of this can be easily missed by the player.

Cyberpunk 2077, for many excited fans, has finally reached its ambitious potential thanks to a series of recent updates, and the complete nature of the game now allows players to embrace the CD Projekt Red title’s most underrated feature – the attention to detail. Before the December 2020 release of Cyberpunk 2077, most of the gaming world anticipated a title that would match the universally loved and critically acclaimed The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, the last major project from the developer. Despite a rocky opening two years, the next-generation release in particular allowed fans to delve deep into the unpredictable, dynamic world of Night City.

For those familiar with The Witcher 3, CD Projekt Red’s flagship title, it would come as no surprise that the attention to detail in Cyberpunk 2077 is equally as thorough – and many of the smart touches to the world can be easily overlooked. For an RPG to feel completely immersive and true-to-form, each separate playthrough must feel unique and have moments that those who pay extra attention to the game world will feel rewarded for, and Cyberpunk follows through on those promises. Whether it’s a unique line of dialogue or an event in the game world, if the player looks for that extra detail or shred of information in a quest or out on the streets, they’ll likely find one.

It is often the case with RPGs, such as The Witcher or Skyrim, that many of these hidden details can be found by reading notes or listening to dialogue with a keen eye or ear for new information. Throughout the game, there are 156 NCPD Scanners located in Night City, and these can provide additional quests and rewards to V (the named protagonist of Cyberpunk 2077), although they can be easily missed. Due to the police nature of these short side quests, some involve a scenario of investigation, and hence, an added sense of attention to detail.

How Cyberpunk 2077’s Details Improve Its Story & Quests

One mission, in particular, “Reported Crime: Don’t Forget The Parking Brake,” displays the level of detail (demonstrated by Kansaqe on YouTube) and variety in Cyberpunk 2077, which is arguably more impressive since it comes in such a short and ultimately avoidable mission. The quest itself is very simple – find a van filled with loot that has sunk into water, and collect it. Around the area the van is suggested to be, V will find scavengers actively looking for the sunken vehicle to no avail, who will need to be taken care of. In the days following this Cyberpunk 2077 side gig, V can return to the site and find Jeremiah Franklin – a Nomad mourning his friends V eliminated before looting the van – who will ask the player to be left alone.

Details like this are not completely new to RPGs but are still exciting and unique to see, and CD Projekt Red has made steps to ensure events like these are more commonplace in Cyberpunk. Away from quests, random events such as NPCs fighting and arguing in the streets, and even characters crashing on the roads, as chronicled by Reddit user CrookedLoy, can happen at any point during V’s adventures. The charm of the underrated random events and pure attention to detail make Cyberpunk 2077, now fixed after the 1.5 patch, a must-play for fans of the genre.
