Doctor Who’s RTD Singles Out Upcoming Episode As One Of His Best

Doctor Who’s RTD Singles Out Upcoming Episode As One Of His Best

Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies has singled out an episode from the upcoming season 14 as being one of the best things he has ever made. Davies previously led Doctor Who from 2005 to 2009, having resurrected the classic series for the modern era. Since then, he has taken on some critically praised projects, including It’s a Sin starring Olly Alexander and Nolly starring Helena Bonham Carter. His return to Doctor Who begins with four special episodes later this year, followed by season 14 in 2024.

    SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Davies recently spoke with BBC Radio 2’s Michael Ball (via Digital Spy) to discuss his upcoming era of Doctor Who. He announced that he had already watched episode 4 of season 14 and hyped it up considerably, maintaining his trend of generating much excitement for the show’s future. Read on for Davies’ full quote:

I sat here and I watched episode 4 last night and I think it’s one of the greatest things I’ve ever made in my life, so I’m very, very happy with it.

It’s looking so good Michael, I love it.

Since departing Doctor Who in 2009, Davies spent over a decade honing his craft. His most impressive feat is undoubtedly the limited series It’s a Sin, which aired on HBO Max. The drama explored the HIV/AIDS crisis in the UK, and received 11 BAFTA nominations. Davies has also been nominated for an Emmy for his writing on another limited series, A Very English Scandal. With so much more experience under his belt, the future of Doctor Who promises to be even better than his first outing as showrunner.

Doctor Who has had many ups and downs throughout its illustrious tenure. Davies’ first term in charge of the show is often singled out by audiences as one of the show’s highest peaks, particularly season 4. During this time, he penned many episodes commonly regarded as some of Doctor Who‘s best, including “Doomsday,” “Midnight,” and “Turn Left.“ His recent proclamation that season 14, episode 4 is one of his best works is hugely promising given his existing work on the show.

It remains to be seen if Davies’ praise is warranted, but in the meantime, there is plenty to look forward to. Doctor Who returns for its 60th anniversary later this year with three special episodes featuring the return of fan favorites David Tennant and Catherine Tate as the Doctor and Donna Noble, respectively. A Christmas special episode will formally introduce Ncuti Gatwa’s long-awaited Fifteenth Doctor, and he will be joined by Millie Gibson in Doctor Who season 14. There is also a reported UNIT spinoff which could be the first of many in a planned Whoniverse with the help of Disney.
