Evil Dead: The Game – Everything Included In The Hail To The King Update

Evil Dead: The Game – Everything Included In The Hail To The King Update

Saber Interactive’s asymmetrical horror co-op title Evil Dead: The Game has received its newest update, Hail To The King. Based on the 1992 film Army of Darkness, the new premium content is available to players who own the season pass or to those who purchase it separately. The update isn’t huge, but it still looks to bring a handful of additions to revitalize and deepen the game’s experience.

Prior content drops for Evil Dead: The Game have similarly tied to specific moments in the franchise; the September update brought the Evil Dead reboot’s Mia and David Allen to the game as playable survivors. The newest update is the second based on Army of Darkness, the third film in the series. Contained within are a new character, a pair of new weapons, a selection of new skins, and a single-player mission. These additions bolster the game’s already impressive roster with further options for survivors to fight back against the game’s horrific foes.

While other games often create their own characters, monsters, and lore from scratch, Evil Dead had a well-established franchise base to draw upon. Pulling together various disparate pieces of the franchise, the various pieces of Evil Dead: The Game‘s post-release DLC work with its core content to have a strikingly coherent identity. Hail To The King is no exception – despite being set in a dramatically different time period than most of the game, it and its additions fit right in.

What’s In Evil Dead: The Game’s New Update?

    Evil Dead The Game Blacksmith

Below is a list of everything included in Evil Dead: The Game‘s Hail To The King update.

    • The Blacksmith, a new survivor
    • The quarterstaff, a new melee weapon
    • The rapid fire crossbow, a new ranged weapon
    • Two new outfits for Ash Williams
    • Two new outfits for Henry the Red
    • One new outfit for Lord Arthur

The flashiest inclusion in this update is only available to those who purchased the premium DLC (or already own the Season Pass): its new character, the Blacksmith, a muscled man from Army of Darkness‘s Middle Ages who plays something of a hybrid warrior/support role. A master of melee weapons, he hits hard and helps his allies to do the same. With scrap salvaged from the environment, he’s able to make melee weapons for other players – essential for fighting off the game’s scariest, most horrifying enemies. As a trade-off, he can’t use any form of ranged weapon.

While that downside might not seem like the worst thing, Hail To The King is also adding a rapid-fire crossbow to players’ arsenals, keeping with the Middle Ages theme. It’s a weapon perfect for felling foes at range, and a brutal-looking quarterstaff joins alongside it. These tools are invaluable for fighting off deadites, and are welcome additions to the game for all players, not just those who purchase the premium upgrade.

Also available to all players is a new single-player mission, which tasks Henry the Red with slaying Kandar’s Witch, who has opened a rift in time and space. This mission looks to take Evil Dead: The Game players through Castle Kandar once again, delving through torch-lit chambers and climbing the castle battlements as they fight off hordes of enemies. Lastly, players who own the season pass or purchase the premium content gain access to five character outfits for Ash, Henry the Red, and Lord Arthur; three of said outfits fit the Middle Ages aesthetic with plates of armor, while Henry the Red also appears in a more contemporary leather vest. Ash’s second outfit dresses him up as a demon for Halloween. Between these, the weapons, and the Blacksmith, there’s a lot to like about Evil Dead: The Game‘s most recent update, which promises even more to come.
