Perez Hilton made headlines on the evening of August 4 when police were called to his home in Florida after a disturbing series of events he streamed on TikTok Live. He was home alone at the time the concerning video was posted, the Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office confirmed in a statement provided to TV Insider.
The celebrity gossip blogger’s actions follow physical health issues that Hilton suffered earlier this year, leading to a three-week hospitalization. Scroll down for more.
What happened to Perez Hilton?
Hilton was hospitalized on the evening of August 4 after appearing to self-harm on his TikTok Live. He appeared nude in the live stream and was brandishing a bloody knife, which he was seemingly using on himself.
Concerned viewers alerted authorities, who were dispatched to Hilton’s home.
After assessing the situation, police released the following statement: “The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office received multiple calls regarding an individual who was live-streaming acts of self-harm on social media. Deputies quickly located the individual’s residence, where they spoke with family members on scene, and he was confirmed alone inside. In many incidents involving a person experiencing a mental health crisis or actively harming themselves, deputies prioritize de-escalation by creating time, distance, and opportunities for communication. At this time, deputies have tactically disengaged while continuing to monitor the situation and providing the needed support to his family.”
It was later confirmed that Hilton was receiving medical care following the incident. “The individual has been safely recovered and transported by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue to a local hospital, where he is receiving medical attention,” the sheriff’s office said. “The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Crisis Response Unit and Licensed Mental Health Professionals are also on scene providing support and resources to the individual’s family.”
What illness did Perez Hilton have?
In February 2026, Hilton revealed that he had been diagnosed with a severe case of the flu. He posted a video on YouTube titled, “I Have Never Been Sicker Than This,” in which he told fans, “I am exceptionally sick still. I talked about it earlier, I finally said what it is. It’s the worst flu of my life. This is worse than when I had COVID.”
On March 21, 2026, Hilton shared videos and photos of himself in a hospital bed in Las Vegas. He later revealed that he got an ulcer from taking his flu medication without food and then developed sepsis. He was hospitalized for three weeks.
What surgery did Perez Hilton have?
After being released from the hospital, Hilton was re-admitted in April after being diagnosed with a deep vein thrombosis in his right leg. Per Mayo Clinic, DVT “occurs when a blood clot (thrombus) forms in one or more of the deep veins in the body.” He had to have surgery to remove the clot.
Hilton’s official surgery was called a thrombectomy. “On Friday, my cardiovascular surgeon removed the most MASSIVE, fully occluded blood clot — it went from my groin to just below my calf,” he shared in another Instagram post. His doctor urged him to try to walk shortly after the surgery to prevent another clot from forming, and Hilton described it as “the most excruciating pain of my life.”
He was released from the hospital the day before Easter Sunday and was able to walk again a few days later.
