The Avett Brothers and Mike Patton have released a second single from their forthcoming collaborative album, AVTT/PTTN, arriving November 14th.
“Heaven’s Breath” is a heavier offering — especially for the Avett Brothers — featuring fuzzed-out guitar and a driving post-punk groove. Patton holds down the lead vocal, with the Avetts providing their harmonies during the melodic build-up in the chorus.
The track was Scott Avett’s first contribution to the AVTT/PTTN project — an initial offering to “crank the saw a little bit,” as described in the press release. It follows the previously released lead single, “Eternal Love,” and the press release notes that these will be the only advance tracks from the album.

The nine-song LP was produced by Patton, Scott Avett, and Grammy-winning engineer Dana Nielsen (Metallica, Rihanna).
“Mike’s part of our DNA, like the fabric of our youth,” Scott said of the unlikely collab via a press statement upon the LP’s announcement. “Literally, we studied him. He’s a dear friend now, but when we were younger, I was imitating him.”
Joked Patton in his own statement: “My peculiar challenge in this was to become a long distant cousin. A brother that was orphaned. Maybe they kept him in the chicken coop or some shit. They brought him out years and years later.”
