The 47th annual News & Documentary Emmys ceremony took place on Wednesday (May 27) at New York’s Jazz at Lincoln Center, and it was a big night for ABC News.
ABC News led the night with eight wins, including the coveted Outstanding Live News Program for ABC World News Tonight With David Muir, marking the show’s fourth consecutive victory. The network also picked up awards in categories such as Outstanding Live News Special, Outstanding Recorded News Special, and Technical Excellence.
Other winners included The Whole Story with Anderson Cooper, which took home the award for Outstanding Recorded News Program, Scott Pelley‘s 60 Minutes War in Gaza feature, which won Outstanding Hard News Report: Short Form, and ABC News’ Chief Global Affairs correspondent Martha Raddatz, who accepted a lifetime achievement award. It was a big night for Mariana van Zeller whose Trafficked show won seven awards.
The event, hosted by Late Night with Seth Meyers‘ Amber Ruffin, also featured a memorable speech from aspiring journalist Santiago Campos, who was awarded the Mike Wallace Memorial Scholarship funded by CBS News.
During his acceptance speech, Campos, a high school senior from Washington, D.C., called out CBS News, saying the “recent direction” of the network “stains” its “legacy.” You can watch the speech here.
