What To Know
- Fox Sports viewers have noticed on-air tension between analysts Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Alexi Lalas during the World Cup coverage.
- The friction intensified after Lalas repeated a claim that the French soccer team is “arrogant.”
- Even fellow pundit Thierry Henry has become involved in the awkwardness.
There has been plenty of action on the pitch at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, but it’s the tension among the pundits that has captured Fox viewers’ attention.
Across the first week of the World Cup, which kicked off on June 11, fans have become convinced that Fox Sports analysts Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Alexi Lalas can’t stand one another. The pair serve as co-hosts alongside Rebecca Lowe and French soccer superstar Thierry Henry on the network’s coverage of the global soccer tournament.
While tensions have been simmering all week, fans noticed things kicked up a gear following France’s 3-1 victory over Senegal on Tuesday (June 16). Ibrahimovic seemed to take issue after Lalas repeated words from former U.S. soccer player Landon Donovan, who called the French side “arrogant” for playing with too much swagger.
“It’s not arrogance, it’s confidence,” the former Swedish soccer star said. “Ignorant people will say it’s arrogance, intelligent people will say it’s confidence.”

The situation became so awkward that Henry’s eyes widened as he sat silently next to the two men. The moment was shared on social media and quickly went viral.
As noted by Complex, this isn’t the first time Ibrahimovic and Lalas have traded barbs. Earlier in the tournament, Lalas stated that if Norway’s Erling Haaland has a good World Cup, he could cement his legendary status above Ibrahimovic.
“If this man [Haaland] has a big World Cup, boom, right to the top, even over this guy [Ibrahimovic],” Lalas said. “I love you Z, but I will take Haaland over you in terms of legendary status.”
“Wow, that’s a big statement,” Henry replied.

“I’m not sure about that,” Ibrahimovic responded. “He needs to do much more to reach the freak of nature.”
There was also another in-studio moment where Ibrahimovic made a dig at Lalas’ fashion sense. “Rebecca, you look great, you look good,” he told Lowe before turning to Henry and saying, “Thierry, you look sharp, Monsieur.”
He then switched his attention to Lalas, adding, “Alexi… we can discuss. Trust me, it’s all love.”

Viewers have been sounding off on social media about the tension between the pair, with one X user writing, “I think… I think Zlatan might kill Alexi Lalas? There’s no way they last together on this desk another 37 days.”
“Zlatan keeps calling him Alexis and I swear he’s doing it on purpose,” said another.
Another added, “Zlatan has had enough of Lalas.”
“Zlatan hates Lalas so much,” another wrote.
“Lmao Zlatan cannot stand Alexi Lalas. He just looks at him with such contempt,” one commenter added.
“My favorite thing at the world cup coverage is how much henry and zlatan openly hate alexi lalas,” said another.
“Zlatan really has had enough of the American pundit.. Henry’s face is priceless,” another added.
Another wrote, “Zlatan just putting Lalas in a body bag any chance he can.”
