The late-night ratings for the week of July 5 are in, and comedian Tiffany Haddish kicked off the Jimmy Kimmel Live! guest-host stint with some solid numbers for ABC.
According to LateNighter, citing Nielsen Live+3 ratings data, Jimmy Kimmel Live! led the 11:35 pm slot for the week of July 5, averaging 1.83 million total viewers and 228,000 viewers in the key 18-49 demographic across four Haddish-hosted episodes and one repeat. This was up 26 percent in total viewers and up 37 percent in the demo compared to the previous week’s all-rerun lineup.
Haddish was the first of six guest hosts filling in for Kimmel during his summer hiatus. Other guest hosts include Anthony Anderson, Ike Barinholtz, Colman Domingo, and Jelly Roll. Kimmel is expected to return after Labor Day.
Meanwhile, on CBS, Byron Allen’s Comics Unleashed also posted gains across its two-hour block of reruns. Each of the block’s remaining three half-hours also saw increases, as high as 20 percent in total viewers and 53 percent in the demo.
Allen’s long-running comedy panel show officially replaced Stephen Colbert‘s The Late Show on Friday, May 22, as part of a new “time buy” deal with CBS. The network canceled The Late Show for “financial” reasons last July, claiming the show lost $40 million annually.
